The primary focus of my work is to begin to understand the cellular and
molecular mechanisms underlying hindbrain ventricle morphogenesis. Although
the importance of the ventricular system in CNS development has been established
by analysis of a series of ventricular disorders and neural tube defects,
we lack a detailed understanding of how this system forms. I am particularly
interested in the dynamics of hindbrain ventricle formation and am gaining
understanding of this process by analyzing hindbrain ventricle defects
in embryos deficient for zic1 and zic4.
